Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship is partnered with BC Wildfire Service, Penticton Indian Band, Osoyoos Indian Band, and the West Boundary Community Forest in planning and conducting a 2nd prescribed burn in the West Boundary (Area E) this spring. Located 3km NE of Rock Creek, the fire is estimated to be ~30 hectares in size. Same as with all prescribed burns, the timing will be based on weather, especially periods of low wind potential. To see a map of this year’s prescribed burn and to learn more about prescribed burns, check out https://kettleriver.ca/2022/03/prescribed-burn/, which includes a webinar from last year focusing on the 2022 Rock Creek prescribed burn put together by the BC Government: Ecosystem Restoration and BC Wildfire Service.
Any questions or comments about last year’s burn, please reach out to Lindsey Dewart (Ecosystem Biologist) at Lindsey.Dewart@gov.bc.ca or Ryan Gow (Prescribed Burn Boss) at Ryan.Gow@gov.bc.ca.
